There really will be Family Fun for All down at Saul This Year.

And when we say All the Family that is what we mean.

TV celebrity, Dr Mark Horton, to open the Saul Canal Festival
Dr Mark Horton
BBC2's Coast celebrity and maritime archaeologist, Dr Mark Horton, will be doing the honours and opening the Saul Canal Festival on July 5th.

Mark, who is Reader in Archaeology at the University of Bristol and a keen sailor, is bringing his own historic boat to the festival from its usual moorings at Lydney where he has been refurbishing it for some time. It is hoped that the yacht will take part in the Festival’s historic boat parade.

The official opening ceremony will take place from the Waterways Museum trip boat, King Arthur, which will bring the VIP party to Saul from Frampton on Severn. “This is one of the high points of the year, and I am really looking forward to it,” said Mark. “I have much enjoyed going in the past. It’s now even more of an honour to open it!”

Families can arrive by Trip Boat from Gloucester. On site they will be amused by Childrens Entertainers, live theatre and story tellers. Young and old alike can enjoy face painting, knot tying and model making. There will be watery games and toys to play with, guided walks, roundabouts & swing boats to go on and water borne demonstrations to watch. There will be local boat trips and Interesting Boat Parades. As well as Morris & Clog Dancing there will be late night stand-up comedy and early morning yoga based recovery sessions.

DAEMON:
the guardian spirit of a person or place.
DOPPELGANGER:
the ghostly duplicate of a living person.
Now in it's 7th year, and with a contemporary "terracotta army" of about twenty-five thousand figures faces and fantastic images produced at a variety of festivals throughout the U.K. and Europe, the workshops continue to astonish and delight wherever they go.
An unusual mixture of participatory workshop and exhibition, the project creates a unique record of any event, big or small. Suitable for all ages and abilities, it is a great opportunity to get your hands dirty and surprise yourself.
The main aim of the workshops is enjoyment and a chance to play freely with the possibilities of self-expression: allowing the imagination to take over.
